Estimated bill correction with customer read

How do we correct an estimated bill from a customer's own meter read with a photo, checked against the history, and recalculate the bill?

Let the customer supply the read and let the data check it. When a bill was estimated, Callvu identifies the customer and prefills the account (the estimated bill, the last actual read, the read history and the usage pattern, the meter number and type), guides the customer to photograph the meter and enter the read, reads the photo and compares it with the entry, checks the read against the history (the meter number matches, the read is not below the last actual, the implied usage is within the expected range for the period), chases a retake where the photo is unreadable or the read fails the checks, routes a read outside tolerance to the billing desk in the Decision Desk, and recalculates the bill from the customer read as the tariff allows, writing the corrected bill and the read to the billing system with the next estimate avoided.

The problem today

The bill was estimated for the third month, the customer's read was taken by phone and keyed wrong, and the catch-up bill doubled.

Today, without Callvu

When the meter cannot be read (an inside meter, a locked gate, a reader route missed), the bill is estimated. Estimates drift; the catch-up when an actual read arrives is a shock; the customer who offers a read by phone gets it keyed with a transposed digit and a bill that is wrong in a new way. The commission's rules limit consecutive estimates and require the utility to accept a customer's read in the meantime.

A customer read is data with checks: the meter number on the photo against the account, the read against the last actual and the dial format, the implied usage against the pattern. A read that passes recalculates the bill under the tariff's rules; one that does not goes to a person. The photo is the evidence, and the recalculation is the tariff's.

A customer read that is checked is better than an estimate and cheaper than a visit.

How it runs

From the requestto the system of record.

A bill is estimated (or a customer asks to submit a read), and the customer is invited or asks to correct it, in any channel. Callvu identifies them and opens the correction.

Customer
Photographs the meter and enters the read on their phone.
Billing desk
Decides reads outside tolerance in the Decision Desk.
Callvu
Prefills, guides the photo, reads it, checks, chases a retake, routes and recalculates.
  1. Chase and verify the read

The account, the estimated bill, the last actual read and its date, the read history and the usage pattern, and the meter's number, type and dial format are prefilled; the customer is guided to photograph the meter face (the number plate and the register) and to enter the read; the photo is read and compared with the entry, the meter number on the plate is matched to the account, and the read is checked: not below the last actual (or classified as a rollover or a meter change), the implied usage within the expected range for the period and the season, the dial format consistent.

  2. Retake where needed

An unreadable photo, a mismatch between the photo and the entry, or a meter number that does not match sends the customer a specific request to retake or correct, with guidance; the case shows the attempts.

  3. Decide

A read that passes the checks recalculates by rule; a read outside the usage tolerance (a very high or very low implied usage), a meter number mismatch after a retake, or a read below the last actual goes to the billing desk in the Decision Desk with the photo and the history and only the allowed outcomes (accept and recalculate, request a utility read or a meter check, or keep the estimate with the reason to the customer).

  4. Write back

The customer read with its photo and date is written to the billing system as a customer read, the bill is recalculated from it under the tariff (the estimated period rebilled on the actual usage at the rates for the period), the corrected bill or the credit is issued, the customer is told, and the read is scheduled to avoid the next estimate where the reader cannot access the meter.

Where it ends: The estimated bill was corrected from a customer read that was photographed, checked against the meter number and the history, and accepted by rule or by a person, with the billing system holding the read and the recalculation. The Decision Trace shows the checks and any decision; the Audit Trace shows the photo, the entry and the write with time.

Runtime enforcement

What is enforcedwhile the work runs.

The regulations preloaded in Callvu Studio and the bank's own policies, applied as steps that run, not lines in a binder. A step that breaks a rule does not run, so a completed run was compliant.

The handoff

Between the front doorand the back office.

The front door

An invitation on the estimated bill, the app, the website or a call with a link; the customer photographs and enters on their phone.

The back office

The billing desk sees only reads outside tolerance; billing recalculates from the accepted read.

The Decision Desk

  • A read outside the usage tolerance, a meter number mismatch after a retake or a read below the last actual goes to the billing desk in the Decision Desk with the photo and the history and only accept, request a utility read or meter check, or keep the estimate with the reason.

Questions

What buyers ask next,answered plainly.

What does the customer submit?

A photo of the meter face showing the number plate and the register, and the read entered, on their phone with guidance.

How is the read checked?

The photo is read and compared with the entry, the meter number is matched to the account, and the read is checked against the last actual and the usage pattern; a read outside tolerance goes to the billing desk.

How is the bill corrected?

Under the tariff's rebilling rules: the estimated period is rebilled on the actual usage at the rates for the period, and the corrected bill or credit is issued from the billing system.
