Minor, custodial and joint account opening
How do we open a minor or custodial account with every owner identified and the titling right in the core?
Open it as one case with several owners, each acting on their own phone. Callvu classifies the account (joint with a minor, custodial under the state's transfers-to-minors act, or a guardianship account), sets the owners and the titling the type requires, identifies and verifies each adult owner and the minor, captures each signature, and writes the account with the correct title and ownership to the core once.

The problem today
The account is titled wrong, and nobody finds out until the custodian tries to withdraw.
A parent opens a savings account for a child in the branch. The banker chooses joint, or custodial, or minor-only, from memory of the last one. The other parent signs a card two weeks later, or never. When the child turns 21, or the custodian dies, the title on the core decides who owns the money, and it was set by a guess.
A custodial account under the state's Uniform Transfers to Minors Act has one custodian, one minor, a defined age at which the custodianship ends, and a title that must name the act. A joint account with a minor is a different thing, with different ownership on death. A guardianship account needs the court's letters. These are not three options on one form; they are three processes with different owners, documents and titles.
Each owner is a CIP customer. An adult who signed a card but was never identified is an exam finding, and a minor whose identification number was typed wrong is a tax form that comes back.
How it runs
From the requestto the system of record.
A parent, custodian or co-owner starts the application in a branch, online or on a call, for an account that will have a minor as owner or beneficiary. Callvu classifies the account type first.
- Primary owner
- The parent, custodian or guardian who starts the application, provides the minor's details and their own identification, and signs.
- Co-owners or guardian
- Each additional adult owner, or the court-appointed guardian, identifies themselves and signs on their own phone; a guardian provides the letters.
- Deposit operations
- Reviews the exceptions and sees every account with the right title and every owner's identification.
- Callvu
- Classifies, sets the owners and the title, chases each party, verifies, routes exceptions and writes the account to the core.
Prefill
An existing customer's identity and contact details, and any existing accounts for the minor, are prefilled from the core.
Classify the account
The applicant answers who will own the account and who will control it. The type follows: a custodial account under the state's Uniform Transfers to Minors Act (one custodian, one minor, the state's age of termination); a joint account with a minor (adult and minor owners, with the survivorship the bank's agreement sets); a minor-only account where the bank allows it; or a guardianship or conservatorship account under court letters. The type sets the owners, the documents, the title and the tax reporting owner.
Chase and verify each owner
Each adult owner receives a link, provides an identification document and is verified and screened under the bank's CIP policy. The minor's name, date of birth and taxpayer identification number are collected and the minor is identified under the policy. A guardian uploads the court letters, which are read and checked for the court, the ward and the authority.
Decide
A complete, verified case books automatically. A verification exception, a screening hit, letters that do not match, or a custodian who is not the minor's parent or legal guardian where policy requires it routes to deposit operations in the Decision Desk with only the allowed outcomes.
Write back
The account is written to the core with the exact title the type requires (for example naming the custodian 'as custodian for' the minor under the state's act), the ownership and survivorship the type sets, the tax reporting owner, each owner's identification record, the disclosures with their acknowledgments and each signature.
Where it ends: The account is in the core with the correct type, title, owners and tax reporting owner, and every owner's identification and signature on file. The Decision Trace shows the classification and what it required; the Audit Trace shows every party, document and step.
Runtime enforcement
What is enforcedwhile the work runs.
The regulations preloaded in Callvu Studio and the bank's own policies, applied as steps that run, not lines in a binder. A step that breaks a rule does not run, so a completed run was compliant.
The handoff
Between the front doorand the back office.
The front door
The branch, online or a call for the primary owner; a link on their own phone for each other owner or the guardian. Identification and signatures happen on process-controlled screens.
The back office
Deposit operations sees accounts with the right title and every owner identified, and reviews only the exceptions. The core receives the account once.
The Decision Desk
- A verification exception, a screening hit, court letters that do not match, or a custodian outside the policy goes to deposit operations in the Decision Desk with the case and only the allowed outcomes.
- An owner who has not responded is nudged, and the primary owner sees what is outstanding.

Questions
What buyers ask next,answered plainly.
How is the account title set?
From the type and the state. A custodial account is titled with the custodian 'as custodian for' the minor under the state's act; the banker does not type it.
Does the other parent have to come in?
No. Each adult owner receives a link, provides identification and signs on their own phone. The account is not written until every owner has.
Who is the tax reporting owner?
The account type decides: the minor for a custodial account. Callvu sets it at opening and writes it to the core with the account.
What about a guardianship?
The guardian uploads the court letters, which are read and checked for the court, the ward and the authority, and any restrictions are recorded on the account.
