Trust and estate account opening
How do we open a trust or estate account with the trustee's or executor's authority verified and the account titled correctly?
Run it as a case that classifies the instrument first. Callvu reads the trust certification or the letters testamentary, identifies the trustee or executor, routes the authority question to legal review in the Decision Desk where the bank's policy requires it, and writes the account to the core with the title, the authority and the signers the instrument allows.

The problem today
The trust is forty pages, the banker reads the first two, and the account is titled from the cover.
A trustee brings a trust agreement, or an executor brings letters from the probate court, and wants an account open today. The banker copies the document, picks a title, and names the person in front of them as the signer. Whether there are co-trustees who must act jointly, whether the trust is revocable, who the successor trustee is, and whether the letters are current and from the right court, are questions answered later, by the person who inherits the problem.
The trustee or executor is a CIP customer, and the trust or estate is the account holder. Most states let a bank rely on a certification of trust instead of the full instrument, and the Uniform Trust Code protects a bank that relies in good faith on it. An estate account requires the court's letters and the estate's taxpayer identification number. None of this is enforced by a signature card.
The bank's own policy often requires legal review for a custom trust, a foreign trust, or letters older than a set age. In email, that review is a queue; at the teller line, it is skipped.
How it runs
From the requestto the system of record.
A trustee or executor applies in a branch, online or through a banker. Callvu opens a case for the trust or estate and captures the instrument on the spot.
- Trustee or executor
- Presents the certification of trust or the letters, identifies themselves, names co-trustees or co-executors, and signs.
- Banker
- Captures the documents and sees the case; does not decide on the authority.
- Deposit operations
- Books the account from the decided case and sees the title, the authority and the signers.
- Legal review
- Reviews the instrument in the Decision Desk where policy requires it and chooses among the allowed outcomes.
- Callvu
- Classifies the instrument, chases each trustee or executor, verifies, routes the review and writes the account.
Classify the instrument
Callvu reads the certification of trust or the letters and classifies the case: revocable or irrevocable trust, the trustees and whether they act jointly or severally, the successor trustee, the trust's taxpayer identification number or the grantor's; or an estate with the court, the date of the letters, the executor or administrator, and any restrictions. The classification sets the title, the signers, the documents and whether legal review is required.
Chase and verify each fiduciary
Each trustee, co-trustee or co-executor receives a link, provides identification and is verified and screened under the bank's CIP policy. The trust or estate's taxpayer identification number is collected and checked. Missing items (a certification instead of the full instrument, a successor trustee's acceptance, current letters) are requested with a link.
Decide
A standard revocable trust with a certification and verified trustees, or an estate with current letters, books under the bank's policy. A custom or foreign trust, letters older than the policy's limit, co-trustees who must act jointly, or a screening hit routes to legal review in the Decision Desk with only the allowed outcomes: accept, request a document, or decline with the reason.
Write back
The account is written to the core with the title the instrument requires, the taxpayer identification number of the trust or estate, the signers and whether they act jointly, any court restrictions, the certification or letters, and each fiduciary's identification and signature.
Where it ends: The account is in the core with the right title, taxpayer identification number, signers and restrictions, the certification or letters on file, and the authority decided and recorded. The Decision Trace shows the classification and the review; the Audit Trace shows every party and step.
Runtime enforcement
What is enforcedwhile the work runs.
The regulations preloaded in Callvu Studio and the bank's own policies, applied as steps that run, not lines in a binder. A step that breaks a rule does not run, so a completed run was compliant.
The handoff
Between the front doorand the back office.
The front door
The branch or the banker for the person presenting the instrument; a link on their own phone for each other trustee or executor. The banker captures and does not decide.
The back office
Legal review receives a classified instrument with the fiduciaries verified. Deposit operations books from the decided case, and the core carries the right title and signers from the start.
The Decision Desk
- A custom or foreign trust, stale letters, joint co-trustees, or a screening hit goes to legal review in the Decision Desk with the classified instrument and only the allowed outcomes: accept, request a document, or decline with the reason.
- The reviewer is nudged, the case escalates before the service level slips, and the trustee sees the status.

Questions
What buyers ask next,answered plainly.
Does the bank need the whole trust?
Usually not. A certification of trust under the state's Uniform Trust Code provision is read and classified, and the bank may require the excerpts that designate the trustee and the powers. The policy decides when the full instrument is needed.
Who decides on a custom trust?
Legal review, in the Decision Desk, with the classified instrument and the fiduciaries' verification. The branch captures; it does not decide.
What about co-trustees who must act together?
The classification records the joint-action requirement and writes it to the core with the signers, so a withdrawal that needs both signatures is enforced by the system.
How are the executor's letters checked?
They are read for the court, the executor, the authority, any restrictions and the date, and compared with the bank's policy on currency. Stale letters are refreshed before the account opens.
