Power of attorney and guardian access
How do we give a representative with a power of attorney or a guardianship access to an account, with the document checked and the access level written to the account?
Check the document before any access, and scope the access to what the document grants. When a representative asks to act on a customer's account, Callvu takes the request through a link, chases the legal document (the power of attorney, the guardianship or conservatorship order, the letters) and the representative's identity, reads the document (the principal matches the account holder, the powers include the acts requested, the effective and expiry dates, the signatures and the notarization or the court seal, any springing condition and its evidence, the state's form requirements), classifies the access level the document supports (full management, billing only, a specific transaction), routes an unclear or limited document to the account desk or legal in the Decision Desk, writes the representative and the scope with the document to the account in the BSS, the system of record, notifies the account holder where the rules and the circumstances allow, and ends the access on the document's expiry or revocation.

The problem today
The daughter's power of attorney was accepted by one store, refused by the contact center, and the account was changed by someone whose document had expired.
Representatives act for customers who cannot: an adult child with a power of attorney for a parent with dementia, a court-appointed guardian, a conservator for a person with a disability, a deployed service member's spouse. The carrier's handling is inconsistent: a document accepted by eye in one channel, rejected in another, never recorded, never scoped and never expired. The customer is either locked out of help or exposed to someone acting beyond their authority.
The CPNI rules require authentication before account access and allow a representative to act only with the holder's authority established; a power of attorney is a legal instrument with a principal, named powers, dates and formalities that vary by state, and a guardianship is a court order with its own scope. Reading the document for those elements, and recording the access level it supports, is the control. Every channel must read the same record.
A representative whose document was read once and recorded with a scope is one every channel can trust.
How it runs
From the requestto the system of record.
A representative asks to act on a customer's account under a power of attorney or a court appointment, in any channel. Callvu opens the access request on the account.
- Representative (the attorney-in-fact, guardian or conservator)
- Provides the document and their identity through a link, and receives the access with its scope.
- Account holder (the principal)
- Is notified where the rules and the circumstances allow, and may revoke.
- Account desk and legal
- Decide unclear or limited documents in the Decision Desk.
- Callvu
- Chases the documents, reads them, classifies the scope, routes, writes to the BSS, notifies and ends the access on expiry.
Chase and verify the document and the identity
The representative uploads the power of attorney (or the guardianship or conservatorship order and the letters) and their own government identity document through a link; the identity is checked with a liveness match; the document is read for the principal's name against the account holder, the agent's name against the representative, the powers granted (general, or specific powers that include contracts, utilities and telecommunications, or billing), the effective date and any expiry or springing condition with its evidence (a physician's statement of incapacity where the document requires it), the signatures, the notarization or witnesses the state requires, and the court's seal and the appointment's scope for an order.
Classify the access level
The access the document supports is classified: full account management (short of what the policy reserves to the holder, such as the CPNI marketing choice), billing and payments only, management of specific lines, or a single transaction (a cancellation, a transfer); a document that is durable survives the principal's incapacity, one that is not ends on it; the state's acceptance rules and the carrier's policy are applied.
Decide
A clear document whose powers cover the requested acts proceeds by rule at the classified level; an unclear or limited document (powers that do not plainly include the act, a missing formality, a springing condition without evidence, an out-of-state form, a conflict with another representative or with the holder's own instructions, a suspected elder abuse pattern) goes to the account desk or legal in the Decision Desk with the document and only the allowed outcomes (accept at the classified level, accept for a limited scope, request a specific item, or refuse with the written reasons and what would be accepted).
Write back, notify and end
The representative with the access level, the scope, the document and its expiry is written to the account in the BSS, the system of record, and published to every channel; the representative sets their own credentials through the credential process; the account holder is notified at the address of record where the rules and the circumstances allow (not where the holder lacks capacity and the notice would reach no one, as the policy provides); the access ends automatically on the document's expiry, on a revocation presented by the holder, or on the holder's death (which moves to the deceased process), and the record is retained.
Where it ends: The representative's document was read once for the principal, the powers, the dates and the formalities, the access was scoped to what it grants, recorded in the BSS so every channel reads the same thing, and it ends when the document does. The Decision Trace shows the document reading, the classification and any decision; the Audit Trace shows the request, the document, the write and the end of access with time.
Runtime enforcement
What is enforcedwhile the work runs.
The regulations preloaded in Callvu Studio and the bank's own policies, applied as steps that run, not lines in a binder. A step that breaks a rule does not run, so a completed run was compliant.
The handoff
Between the front doorand the back office.
The front door
Any channel; the representative uploads the document and their identity through a link, or presents them in a store where the same reading applies.
The back office
The account desk and legal decide only unclear documents; every channel reads the one record.
The Decision Desk
- An unclear or limited document, a springing condition without evidence, an out-of-state form, a conflict with another representative, or a suspected abuse pattern goes to the account desk or legal in the Decision Desk with the document and only accept at the level, accept limited, request a specific item, or refuse with written reasons.

Questions
What buyers ask next,answered plainly.
What is checked on the power of attorney?
The principal against the account holder, the agent against the representative, the powers granted, the effective date and any expiry or springing condition with its evidence, the signatures and the state's notarization or witness requirements; for a guardian, the court's order and the letters and their scope.
What access does the representative get?
The level the document supports: full management short of what the policy reserves to the holder, billing only, specific lines, or a single transaction; recorded in the account and read by every channel.
When does the access end?
On the document's expiry, a revocation presented by the holder, or the holder's death, by rule, with the record retained.
