Military deployment and SCRA requests
How do we handle a service member's deployment request by taking the orders, suspending or cancelling the plan without fees under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, and keeping the record?
Treat the orders as the evidence and the Act as the rule. When a service member (or their representative) submits a deployment or relocation request, Callvu authenticates them, prefills the account and the lines, takes the request type (a suspension with the number kept, a cancellation of the service contract, a reinstatement on return) and the orders on a secure screen, reads the orders for the elements the Act requires (the member, the deployment or the permanent change of station, the dates, the period), verifies them where the policy allows (the Department of Defense status check with consent), applies the Act's terms by rule (no early termination fee, the number held, the device agreement handled per the policy, the pro-rated final bill), routes a request outside the Act's scope or with incomplete orders to the service desk in the Decision Desk, writes the suspension or the cancellation with the orders attached to the BSS, the system of record, and billing, and sets the reinstatement path with the return date.

The problem today
The deploying soldier was charged an early termination fee the Act prohibits, because the agent's script did not have a path for orders.
A deployment request arrives from a service member with days to spare and orders in hand. The contact center's scripts cover cancellation and suspension but not the Act; the agent asks for the orders by fax, the fee applies because the cancellation code was the standard one, and the number is released. The service member returns to a complaint they have to make, and the carrier to an enforcement letter.
The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act gives a member who receives orders for a deployment of a set length or a permanent change of station the right to terminate a cellular service contract without an early termination fee, and to keep the number on resuming service within the period; the carrier's policy adds a suspension option with the number held and the treatment of the device agreement. The orders are the evidence, the Act's conditions are the test, and the terms are the consequence.
A request handled under the Act is a member who comes back to the carrier.
How it runs
From the requestto the system of record.
A service member, a spouse or a representative with authority submits a deployment or relocation request in any channel. Callvu authenticates and opens the request on the account.
- Service member or representative
- Submits the request and the orders on a secure screen and chooses suspension or cancellation.
- Service desk
- Decides requests outside the Act's scope or with incomplete orders in the Decision Desk.
- Callvu
- Authenticates, prefills, takes and reads the orders, verifies, applies the Act's terms, routes and writes.
Prefill and take the request
The account, the lines, the device agreements, the commitments and any prior military record are prefilled from the BSS; the request type is taken (a suspension with the number held for the deployment, a cancellation of the service contract, a reinstatement on return) with the lines affected and the effective date, and the orders are uploaded on a secure screen, never read to an agent.
Chase and verify the orders
The orders are read for the elements the Act requires (the member's name, the deployment or the permanent change of station, the dates and the period, the issuing authority) and checked against the account holder or the authorized representative; where the policy allows, the Department of Defense status is checked with the member's consent; incomplete or unreadable orders are chased with the specific element named.
Decide and apply
A request within the Act's scope with complete orders applies by rule: the suspension or the cancellation on the effective date with no early termination fee, the number held for the period, the device installment agreement handled per the policy (continued payments, a payoff option, or a suspension where the policy provides), the pro-rated final bill, and the reinstatement right recorded; a request outside the Act's scope (a deployment shorter than the Act's period, a non-member, a relocation that does not qualify), a representative without authority, or orders that cannot be verified goes to the service desk in the Decision Desk with the record and only the allowed outcomes: apply the Act's terms, apply the carrier's deployment policy instead, request further evidence, or decline with the reason.
Write back and set the return
The suspension or the cancellation with the orders attached, the fee waiver, the number hold and its period, the device agreement treatment and the final bill are written to the BSS, the system of record, and billing with the confirmation to the member; the reinstatement path is set with the return date and the number held, and a reinstatement request restores the service on the same record.
Where it ends: The member's request was decided under the Act from the orders, with no fee, the number held and the record kept, and the reinstatement is a date on the account rather than a new application. The Decision Trace shows the orders' elements, the Act's test and any decision; the Audit Trace shows the upload, the verification and the writes with time.
Runtime enforcement
What is enforcedwhile the work runs.
The regulations preloaded in Callvu Studio and the bank's own policies, applied as steps that run, not lines in a binder. A step that breaks a rule does not run, so a completed run was compliant.
The handoff
Between the front doorand the back office.
The front door
Any channel; the member or representative uploads the orders and chooses on a secure screen.
The back office
The service desk decides only scope and evidence questions; the Act's terms apply by rule.
The Decision Desk
- A request outside the Act's scope, a representative without authority or unverifiable orders goes to the service desk in the Decision Desk with the record and only apply the Act's terms, apply the deployment policy, request further evidence, or decline with the reason.

Questions
What buyers ask next,answered plainly.
What does the Act allow?
A member with orders for a deployment of at least 90 days or a permanent change of station may terminate the service contract without an early termination fee and keep the number on resuming service within 90 days after the deployment ends.
What happens to the phone's installment agreement?
It is a separate credit obligation; the carrier's policy sets whether payments continue, a payoff is offered or installments are suspended, and the member sees the treatment before choosing.
What does the member have to provide?
The written request and a copy of the orders, uploaded on a secure screen and read for the Act's elements; the carrier may check the Department of Defense status with consent where its policy allows.
