Broker and correspondent onboarding

How do we collect and check a broker's or correspondent's licensing, agreements, insurance and financials before they can submit loans?

Run onboarding as a checklist the counterparty fills through a link. Callvu classifies the counterparty type (a broker, a non-delegated or delegated correspondent) and its states, lists the requirements (the company and branch NMLS licenses in each state, the individual originators' licenses, the agreement and its addenda, the errors and omissions and fidelity coverage, the financial statements and net worth, the quality control plan, the ownership and background information, the regulatory history), collects each through the counterparty's link with reading and checks (the NMLS Consumer Access record, the coverage limits, the net worth test), routes the approval to the third-party originator manager in the Decision Desk, and writes the approved counterparty with its states and limits to the loan origination system so loans can be submitted.

The problem today

The broker submitted loans in a state where their license had lapsed, and the lender found out from the state examiner.

Today, without Callvu

A wholesale lender signs a new broker. The package arrives by email: a license screenshot, an unsigned agreement, a certificate of insurance for last year, financials from two years ago. The account executive, who wants the volume, marks it complete. Loans arrive from a state the broker is not licensed in; the originator on the file is not on NMLS; the lender owns the compliance exposure.

The SAFE Act and the state licensing laws require every mortgage loan originator and company to be licensed or registered through NMLS in each state where they originate; the lender's own policy and the investors' third-party originator rules require the agreement, the coverage, the financial strength, the quality control plan and the background checks. Each requirement is a document with a check, and the checks are on public records and on the document's content.

Onboarding is where the lender decides what it will own, and it should be a gate, not a sales step.

How it runs

From the requestto the system of record.

An account executive or the counterparty requests onboarding. Callvu opens the case with the counterparty type and states.

Broker or correspondent
Provides the licenses, the agreement, the insurance, the financials, the quality control plan and the ownership information through a link.
Account executive
Sponsors the relationship and sees the checklist's status.
Third-party originator manager
Approves in the Decision Desk with the checks.
Callvu
Classifies, lists, chases, checks, routes and writes.
  1. Classify and list the requirements

The counterparty type (broker, non-delegated correspondent, delegated correspondent), the states requested and the products classify the requirements: the company and branch licenses or registrations in each state, the individual originators' licenses, the agreement and the addenda for the products, the errors and omissions and fidelity coverage with minimum limits, the audited or reviewed financials and the net worth and liquidity tests, the quality control plan, the ownership and the background and regulatory history, the sanctions and exclusion list checks.

  2. Chase and verify

Each item is requested through the counterparty's link, read and checked: the licenses against the NMLS Consumer Access record (status, states, the company's sponsored originators), the coverage against the limits and the lender as certificate holder, the financials against the tests, the agreement signed by an authorized officer, the owners and principals against the sanctions, exclusion and regulatory action lists; the checklist shows what is outstanding.

  3. Decide

The third-party originator manager approves in the Decision Desk with the checklist and each check's result, and only the allowed outcomes: approve for the states and products the checks support, approve with conditions, or decline with reasons; a state without a verified license is excluded by rule.

  4. Write back

The approved counterparty with its states, products, limits, delegation and the recertification date is written to the loan origination system and the counterparty management record, the originators are enabled by NMLS identifier, and the loan intake process accepts submissions only within the approved scope.

Where it ends: The counterparty was approved on verified licenses, documents and tests, for the states and products the checks support, and the loan origination system enforces that scope. The Decision Trace shows each check and the approval; the Audit Trace shows the documents, the public record checks and the write. The systems named here stay the system of record; Callvu writes to them and keeps the trace.

Runtime enforcement

What is enforcedwhile the work runs.

The regulations preloaded in Callvu Studio and the bank's own policies, applied as steps that run, not lines in a binder. A step that breaks a rule does not run, so a completed run was compliant.

The handoff

Between the front doorand the back office.

The front door

The counterparty through its link; the account executive sees the status.

The back office

The third-party originator manager approves on a checklist with verified checks; the loan origination system enforces the scope.

The Decision Desk

  • The checklist goes to the third-party originator manager in the Decision Desk with each check's result and only approve for the verified scope, approve with conditions, or decline with reasons.

Questions

What buyers ask next,answered plainly.

What is collected?

The company, branch and originator licenses, the agreement and addenda, the errors and omissions and fidelity coverage, the financials, the quality control plan and the ownership and background information, through the counterparty's link.

How are licenses verified?

Against the NMLS Consumer Access record for the company, each branch and each originator, by state; a state without a verified license is excluded from the scope.

What does approval enable?

Submissions only within the approved states, products and limits, enforced by the loan origination system, with the recertification date set.
