Annuity required minimum distribution and income elections
How do we set up an annuity owner's required minimum distribution or income election with the amount computed, the tax withholding elected and the signature captured, written to the annuity admin system?
Compute the distribution and make the election a signed screen. Callvu identifies the owner, prefills the contract (the qualified status, the prior year-end value, the owner's age and the applicable life expectancy factor, the beneficiary designation, the existing withholding election, any guaranteed income rider and its rules), computes the required minimum distribution or the income options the contract allows, presents the elections on a secure screen (the amount or the frequency, the withholding at the default rate or the owner's election, the payee details), captures the signature, routes an exception to the annuity service analyst in the Decision Desk, and writes the election to the annuity admin system with the payments scheduled and the tax reporting set.

The problem today
The reminder letter went out in December, the form came back in February, and the owner paid the excise tax for a missed distribution.
An owner of a qualified annuity turns the required beginning age. The insurer mails a reminder with a form. The form asks for things the insurer already knows, the owner is unsure of the withholding box, and the signed form arrives after the deadline. The missed distribution carries an excise tax, and the owner's accountant writes to the insurer.
The rules are arithmetic on data the insurer holds: the prior year-end value, the owner's age and the life expectancy table, the required beginning date and the deadline for each year, the default withholding rate and the owner's right to elect otherwise, and the contract's own income options and rider rules. The election is the owner's; the computation and the deadline are the insurer's to run.
The form is the problem. The election is a screen with the numbers already in it.
How it runs
From the requestto the system of record.
The owner reaches the required beginning age or requests an income election, or the annual reminder cycle opens on a qualified contract. Callvu opens the election on the contract.
- Annuity owner
- Reviews the computed amount and the options, elects withholding and the payee, and signs on a secure screen.
- Annuity service analyst
- Decides exceptions in the Decision Desk.
- Callvu
- Prefills, computes, presents, captures the signature, routes and writes to the annuity admin system.
Prefill and compute
The contract is read from the annuity admin system: the qualified status (an IRA, a qualified plan, a non-qualified contract with no requirement), the prior year-end value including the actuarial present value of any guaranteed benefit the rules require, the owner's age and the life expectancy factor from the applicable table, the required beginning date, the deadline for the year, any distributions already taken, the beneficiary, the withholding on file, and the contract's income options and rider rules; the required minimum distribution or the income options are computed.
Present the elections
The owner sees the computed amount and the options (the minimum, a higher amount, a monthly or quarterly schedule, an annuitization or rider income option where the contract allows), the withholding election with the default rate explained and the choice to elect a different rate or none, the payee details (their own verified bank account), and the deadline for the year.
Decide exceptions
An election within the rules and the contract is applied by rule; an exception (an amount below the required minimum, an election after the deadline, a contract with an unusual rider, an inherited contract under the beneficiary rules, a payee that fails verification) goes to the annuity service analyst in the Decision Desk with the computation and only the allowed outcomes.
Sign and write back
The owner signs the election on the screen, and the election with the amount, the schedule, the withholding, the payee and the signature is written to the annuity admin system; the payments are scheduled, the tax reporting is set for the year, and the annual cycle re-opens with the new value the following year.
Where it ends: The distribution was computed from the contract's data under the rules, the owner elected and signed on a screen with the numbers in it, and the annuity admin system holds the election with the payments scheduled before the deadline. The Decision Trace shows the computation and any exception; the Audit Trace shows the presentation, the signature and the write. The annuity admin system is the system of record for the contract.
Runtime enforcement
What is enforcedwhile the work runs.
The regulations preloaded in Callvu Studio and the bank's own policies, applied as steps that run, not lines in a binder. A step that breaks a rule does not run, so a completed run was compliant.
The handoff
Between the front doorand the back office.
The front door
The annual reminder's link, the app or a call; the owner elects on a secure screen with the numbers prefilled.
The back office
The analyst sees only exceptions; the annuity admin system schedules the payments from the write.
The Decision Desk
- An amount below the minimum, a late election, an inherited contract, an unusual rider or a failed payee verification goes to the annuity service analyst in the Decision Desk with the computation and only the allowed outcomes.

Questions
What buyers ask next,answered plainly.
How is the required minimum distribution computed?
The prior year-end value divided by the life expectancy factor from the applicable table, from the contract's data, with the deadline for the year shown.
What about withholding?
The owner elects on the screen, with the default rate explained and the option to choose a different rate or none, as the federal rules allow.
What if the owner misses the deadline?
The reminder cycle opens early, the deadline is on the screen, and a late election is an exception the analyst decides rather than a silent miss.
