Power of attorney registration
How do we register a power of attorney on an account with legal review, inside the time the law gives us?
Treat the presented power of attorney as a case with a clock. Callvu captures the document and the agent's identification at the branch, classifies the instrument, routes it to legal review in the Decision Desk with only the outcomes the statute allows, and records the agent's authority on the account in the core once it is accepted. The problem today
The agent is at the teller line with a document nobody in the branch is qualified to accept.
An adult child presents a durable power of attorney for a parent's account. The branch photocopies it, emails legal, and tells the agent someone will call. Legal is a queue. Two weeks later the agent is back, angrier, and the parent's bills are unpaid. Or the branch accepts it on the spot, and it turns out to have been revoked.
Under the Uniform Power of Attorney Act, as adopted in most states, a bank presented with an acknowledged power of attorney must accept it, or request a certification, a translation or an opinion of counsel, within seven business days, and then accept it within five business days of receiving what it asked for. Refusal outside the statute's grounds exposes the bank to the agent's costs. An email thread does not keep that clock.
The agent's own identity is a second question that often goes unasked. The person presenting the document is about to control someone else's money, and the bank's identification policy applies to them as it would to a signer. Elder financial exploitation most often arrives this way.
How it runs
From the requestto the system of record.
An agent presents a power of attorney in a branch, or uploads it online, for an account held by the principal. Callvu opens a case on the account with the presentation date, which starts the statutory clock.
- Agent under POA
- Presents the instrument, identifies themselves, and states the authority they intend to exercise.
- Branch
- Captures the document and the agent's identification on the spot and sees the case status; no longer decides acceptance.
- Legal review
- Reviews the instrument in the Decision Desk and chooses among the outcomes the statute allows.
- Callvu
- Classifies the instrument, tracks the clock, routes the review, and records the authority on the account in the core.
Capture at the branch
The branch captures the instrument and the agent's identification document on process-controlled screens. The presentation date is recorded, and the agent receives a reference and what happens next.
Classify the instrument
Callvu reads the document and classifies it: durable or not, statutory form or custom, acknowledged before a notary or not, the powers granted (banking, real property, gifts), any co-agents or successor agents, and the governing state. The classification sets the review path.
Chase and verify
The agent is identified and verified under the bank's identification policy and screened against the government lists. Where the instrument requires it, the principal's incapacity determination or a certification from the agent is requested with a link and a deadline.
Legal review in the Decision Desk
The case goes to legal review with the classified instrument, the agent's verification and the clock. The reviewer's choices are the statute's: accept; request an agent's certification, a translation or an opinion of counsel; or refuse on a listed ground. A free-text refusal is not an option.
Decide and record
On acceptance, Callvu records the agent's authority on the account in the core, scoped to the powers granted, with the instrument and the review attached. On a request, the clock for the agent's response and the bank's second deadline is tracked. On refusal, the ground is recorded and the notice goes out.
Write back
The authority, the instrument, the agent's identification, the review decision and the dates are written to the core and the document system, and the branch and the agent are told the outcome.
Where it ends: The agent's authority is recorded on the account in the core, scoped to the powers granted, with the instrument, the identification and the legal decision on file and every date inside the statutory window. The Decision Trace shows the classification and the ground for the decision; the Audit Trace shows every step and its time.
Runtime enforcement
What is enforcedwhile the work runs.
The regulations preloaded in Callvu Studio and the bank's own policies, applied as steps that run, not lines in a binder. A step that breaks a rule does not run, so a completed run was compliant.
The handoff
Between the front doorand the back office.
The front door
The branch is the front door. The teller or banker captures the instrument and the agent's identification on the spot, and the case is already with legal review before the agent leaves the branch.
The back office
Legal review receives a classified instrument with the agent verified and the clock visible, not a photocopy in an email. The authority reaches the core from the decision, scoped and dated.
The Decision Desk
- The instrument goes to legal review in the Decision Desk with the classification, the agent's verification, the statutory clock, and only the statute's outcomes: accept, request a certification, translation or opinion of counsel, or refuse on a listed ground.
- A reviewer is nudged as the seven-business-day deadline approaches, and the case moves to another reviewer before it slips.
- A suspected exploitation flag from the branch routes the case to the reviewer with the option to report.

Questions
What buyers ask next,answered plainly.
Can the branch accept a power of attorney on the spot?
The branch captures it and the agent's identification on the spot. Acceptance, a request or a refusal is legal review's decision in the Decision Desk, made inside the statutory clock.
What if the reviewer wants more?
They choose a request the statute allows: an agent's certification, a translation or an opinion of counsel. Callvu sends the request to the agent with a deadline and tracks the bank's second deadline from the day the item arrives.
Can the bank refuse?
Only on a ground the statute lists, as carried in the bank's policy for the governing state. The ground is recorded with the decision.
What does the agent see?
A reference, what happens next, any request with its deadline, and the outcome, on their phone. They do not have to come back to the branch to find out.
What about suspected elder financial exploitation?
The branch can flag it at capture, and legal review can make the report from the case. A good-faith report is a ground to decline, and the flag and the report are in the Audit Trace.
