Name change on the account
How do we update the name on an account and the billing name when the customer submits a legal name change with proof, authenticated and recorded?
Treat the name change as an identity event with a document. Callvu takes the request from the account holder in any channel, authenticates them with a secure method, chases the proof the policy accepts for the change type (a marriage certificate, a divorce decree, a court order, an updated government identity document) through a link, reads it (the prior name against the account, the new name, the issuing authority and the date), updates the account holder name, the billing name and the name on the lines the customer chooses in the BSS, the system of record, with the prior name retained in the history, propagates the change to the credit reporting, the device financing and the regulatory records that carry the name, sends the change notice to the address of record, and reissues the documents that show the name. The problem today
The name was changed on the account but not on the financing agreement, and the credit bureau now carried two people who were one.
A legal name change (a marriage, a divorce, a court order, a gender transition) touches more than the greeting on the bill: the account holder's identity record, the billing name, the device financing agreement reported to the bureaus, the regulatory records, the ID cards and the documents the customer uses as proof of address. Done as a free-text edit by an agent, it leaves the other records inconsistent and the customer explaining the mismatch for years.
The CPNI rules require authentication before an account change and the notice of it; the credit reporting and the financing agreement carry the legal name and must be updated consistently; the carrier's policy sets the proof accepted. The change is a verified document and a set of writes, and the history must keep the prior name for the records that reference it.
A name change made once, from a document, to every record, is a change the customer never has to explain.
How it runs
From the requestto the system of record.
The account holder asks to change their name on the account, in the app, the website, the contact center, a store or through an AI assistant. Callvu opens the change on the account.
- Account holder
- Authenticates, uploads the proof, chooses the lines and the documents to update, and receives the change notice.
- Agent
- Starts the request and sees the result, not the credentials.
- Callvu
- Authenticates, chases and reads the proof, writes to the BSS and the connected records, notifies and reissues.
Chase and verify
The holder is authenticated with a secure method; the change type is captured (a marriage, a divorce, a court order, a correction) and the proof the policy accepts for it is requested through a link (the marriage certificate, the divorce decree with the name restoration, the court order, or the updated government identity document showing the new name); the document is read for the prior name against the account holder, the new name, the issuing authority and the date, and what is missing or unreadable is chased with the specifics; the new name is entered as it appears on the document.
Choose the scope
The holder chooses what the change applies to: the account holder name, the billing name, the name shown on specific lines (where a line's user name differs), the name on the device financing agreement, and the documents to reissue (the bill, the proof of service letter); a change on an account with an open takeover case routes through the takeover process.
Write back
The account holder name and the billing name are updated in the BSS, the system of record, with the prior name retained in the account history and the document attached; the change is propagated to the device financing records and the credit reporting under the furnisher's rules (an update to the consumer's name on the trade line, not a new consumer), to the regulatory records that carry the name (the 911 record for a voice line, the number portability data), and to the documents the customer chose.
Notify and reissue
The change notice goes to the address of record as it stood before the change, the reissued documents are delivered in the customer's channel, and the request, the document and the writes are retained.
Where it ends: The name changed once, from a verified document, to the account, the billing, the financing, the reporting and the regulatory records, with the prior name kept in the history and the holder notified. The Decision Trace shows the authentication, the document reading and the scope; the Audit Trace shows the request, the document, each write and the notice with time.
Runtime enforcement
What is enforcedwhile the work runs.
The regulations preloaded in Callvu Studio and the bank's own policies, applied as steps that run, not lines in a binder. A step that breaks a rule does not run, so a completed run was compliant.
The handoff
Between the front doorand the back office.
The front door
Any channel; the holder authenticates and uploads the proof on their phone, or presents it in a store where the same reading applies.
The back office
No reviewer for a standard change; the account desk sees only a document that cannot be read or matched.
The Decision Desk
- A document that cannot be matched to the account holder, a change on an account with an open takeover case, or a conflict with another record goes to the account desk in the Decision Desk with the document and only accept, request a specific item, or refuse with the reason.
