Device upgrade and trade-in
How do we handle a device upgrade and trade-in in one flow, with the eligibility, the trade-in value and the new installment agreement handled together and the trade-in tracked until it is received?
Run upgrade, trade-in and financing as one flow with the trade-in tracked to receipt. Callvu authenticates the customer, prefills the account (the line, the current device and its installment balance, the upgrade eligibility under the plan and the program, the credit standing), takes the new device choice, values the trade-in from the device's identifier and the customer's condition answers with the terms of the credit, presents the new installment agreement with the TILA disclosures and captures the signature on a secure screen, chases the trade-in through the shipping kit or the store drop with the clock the program sets, verifies the received device against the identifier and the condition, routes a value dispute, a condition mismatch or an unreturned device past the window to the device desk in the Decision Desk, and writes the upgrade, the agreement, the trade-in credit and the old balance treatment to the BSS, the system of record, and billing. The problem today
The trade-in credit never appeared because the old phone sat in a drawer, and the customer paid two installment agreements for four months.
An upgrade is three transactions wearing one coat: the eligibility and the sale of the new device, the financing of it under an installment agreement, and the trade-in of the old one for a credit that depends on it arriving in the promised condition. Each is handled by a different team with a different system; the customer leaves with a new phone, a promise, and a drawer. When the old phone is not returned, the credit reverses and the complaint follows.
The installment agreement is closed-end credit under Regulation Z with its disclosures and the signature; the trade-in is a conditional credit with a return window and a condition check; the eligibility depends on the plan, the program and the existing agreement's balance. The three run together or the customer experiences three problems.
An upgrade where the trade-in is chased and verified on a clock is a credit that lands and a complaint that does not.
How it runs
From the requestto the system of record.
A customer requests an upgrade in the store, the app, the web or on a call, or accepts an upgrade offer. Callvu authenticates them and opens the upgrade on the line.
- Customer
- Chooses the device, answers the trade-in condition questions, signs the agreement on a secure screen, and ships or drops the old device.
- Agent
- Works the same record in the store or on a call and sends the link for the signature.
- Device desk and the returns center
- Receive and verify the trade-in; the desk decides disputes and mismatches in the Decision Desk.
- Callvu
- Prefills, checks eligibility, values, discloses and captures the agreement, chases and verifies the trade-in, routes and writes.
Prefill and check eligibility
The line, the current device, its installment agreement and balance, the upgrade program's eligibility (the share paid, the time elapsed, the program's conditions), the plan's requirements and the credit standing are prefilled from the BSS; the eligible upgrade paths (an early upgrade with the balance treatment, a standard upgrade, a trade-in promotion) are computed by rule and shown with their consequences.
Value the trade-in and present the agreement
The trade-in is valued from the old device's identifier and the customer's condition answers (the screen, the power, the water indicator, the activation lock removed) with the credit's terms (the amount, whether it is applied upfront or as monthly credits, the return window, the condition the device must arrive in and the reduced value or the reversal if it does not); the new device's installment agreement is presented with the TILA disclosures (the amount financed, the payment schedule, the finance charge where any, the total of payments, the late and prepayment terms) and signed on the customer's secure screen.
Chase and verify the trade-in
The customer receives the shipping kit or the store drop instructions with the return window, is reminded on the schedule, and the device is tracked in transit; on receipt the returns center verifies the identifier against the one valued, checks the condition against the answers and the activation lock, and the credit is confirmed, reduced or reversed by rule with the customer told the result and the reason.
Decide and write back
A value dispute, a condition mismatch the customer contests, a device received with a different identifier, or a device unreturned past the window goes to the device desk in the Decision Desk with the evidence and only the allowed outcomes (confirm the credit, reduce with the reason, reverse, or extend the window); the upgrade, the new agreement, the old balance treatment, the trade-in credit and the device changes are written to the BSS, the system of record, and billing, with the old device's line association ended and the new device activated.
Where it ends: The upgrade, the financing and the trade-in ran as one flow, the agreement was signed with its disclosures, the trade-in was chased and verified on its clock, and the BSS and billing hold the whole transaction with the credit as confirmed. The Decision Trace shows the eligibility, the valuation, the disclosures and any decision; the Audit Trace shows the signature, the shipment, the receipt and the writes with time.
Runtime enforcement
What is enforcedwhile the work runs.
The regulations preloaded in Callvu Studio and the bank's own policies, applied as steps that run, not lines in a binder. A step that breaks a rule does not run, so a completed run was compliant.
The handoff
Between the front doorand the back office.
The front door
The store, the app, the web or a call with a link; the customer signs and ships or drops the device on the program's instructions.
The back office
The returns center verifies on receipt by rule; the device desk decides only disputes and mismatches.
The Decision Desk
- A value dispute, a contested condition mismatch, a different identifier or a device unreturned past the window goes to the device desk in the Decision Desk with the evidence and only confirm, reduce with the reason, reverse, or extend the window.
