Verification of deposit and assets
How do we verify a borrower's deposits and assets with balances and large deposits checked, and unexplained deposits sent back for an explanation automatically?
Read the statements the way an underwriter would, on arrival. Callvu collects the asset statements from the borrower or, with consent, from the depository institution, reads every page, checks the balances against the application and the funds needed to close, scans for large deposits above the guideline's threshold, flags each with the date and amount, requests the borrower's explanation and sourcing documents for each one through a link, and writes the verified assets and the open items to the file. The problem today
The underwriter finds the large deposit on page four, two days before closing.
The borrower uploads two months of bank statements. The processor files them. The underwriter, at the end of the queue, reads them and finds a 12,000-dollar deposit on page four with no source. A letter of explanation and the sourcing documents are requested, the borrower is on holiday, and closing moves.
The guidelines define a large deposit by a percentage of the qualifying income and require it to be sourced or excluded from the funds to close; they set the number of months of statements, the age of the statements, and what counts as an acceptable source. A gift needs its own letter and transfer evidence. The checks are rules, and the statements are documents a machine can read.
Verification of deposit done on arrival turns the last-minute condition into a first-week question.
How it runs
From the requestto the system of record.
The document collection process requires asset verification for the loan. Callvu opens the verification with the asset accounts stated on the application.
- Borrower
- Uploads statements or consents to a direct verification, and explains flagged deposits with documents.
- Depository institution
- Provides statements or a direct verification where the borrower consented.
- Processor
- Reviews only the flagged items and clears conditions.
- Callvu
- Collects, reads, checks balances and deposits, requests explanations, and writes the verified assets.
Chase and verify the statements
The borrower uploads the months of statements the program requires for each account, or consents to a direct verification from the institution through the lender's verification service. Each statement is read on arrival: account holder, account number, period, beginning and ending balances, and every deposit.
Classify the findings
The ending balances are compared with the application and the funds needed to close; the statements' age and completeness are checked (all pages, consecutive months); each deposit above the program's large-deposit threshold (for example, 50 percent of the qualifying monthly income) that is not payroll or a recurring identifiable source is flagged with its date and amount; gifts and transfers between the borrower's accounts are identified for matching.
Request explanations
For each flagged deposit the borrower receives a request through a link for a signed explanation and the sourcing documents (a sale contract, a gift letter and transfer evidence, a transfer from another verified account). Each response is read and matched to the deposit. The processor sees the open items.
Write back
The verified assets (the balances, the months, the sourced and excluded deposits) and the open explanation items are written to the loan file in the LOS, and the asset conditions clear or remain with the reason.
Where it ends: The assets are verified on the record with every large deposit sourced or excluded, and the explanations were requested in the first week rather than the last. The Decision Trace shows each check and threshold; the Audit Trace shows every statement, flag and response.
Runtime enforcement
What is enforcedwhile the work runs.
The regulations preloaded in Callvu Studio and the bank's own policies, applied as steps that run, not lines in a binder. A step that breaks a rule does not run, so a completed run was compliant.
The handoff
Between the front doorand the back office.
The front door
The borrower's phone for uploads, or a consented direct verification from the institution.
The back office
The processor reviews only flagged items; the underwriter receives assets already verified with the deposits sourced.
The Decision Desk
- A deposit whose explanation does not match, or a source the guideline may not accept, goes to the underwriter in the Decision Desk with the documents and only the allowed outcomes: accept the source, exclude the deposit, or request more.

Questions
What buyers ask next,answered plainly.
When are large deposits found?
On arrival. Every statement is read in full and each deposit above the program's threshold is flagged with its date and amount, and the explanation is requested at once.
What does the borrower have to provide?
For each flagged deposit, a signed explanation and the sourcing documents the guideline accepts, through a link; each is matched to the deposit.
Can the bank verify directly?
With the borrower's consent, through the lender's verification service, which also reduces altered-statement risk.
