Large-deposit and exception holds

How do we place large-deposit and new-account holds under Reg CC with the right reason, the right availability date and the notice on time?

Make the hold a decision the process takes, not the teller. When a deposit meets a Reg CC exception condition, Callvu classifies the exception, computes the availability date from the schedule, produces the hold notice with the required content, gives it to the customer at the time of deposit or sends it by the next business day, records the hold and the notice in the core, and releases the funds on the date.

The problem today

The teller decides the hold, the notice is a stamp, and the funds are released a day late or a day early.

Today, without Callvu

A customer deposits a large check. The teller places a hold because the amount looks big, picks a number of days from memory, and hands over a stamped receipt. Or does not place a hold on a new account that should have had one. Deposit operations reviews the holds the next morning and reverses some, and the notice that went out is wrong for the hold that stays.

Reg CC is specific: which exceptions allow an extended hold (large deposits over the threshold, new accounts in their first 30 days, redeposited checks, repeated overdrafts, reasonable cause to doubt collectibility, emergency conditions), how many business days the hold may run, what the notice must say, and when it must be given. A hold outside the rule is a violation; a hold without the right notice is a violation; a release late is a violation.

The thresholds move. The large-deposit and new-account amounts are inflation-adjusted every five years, and a hold schedule that lives in a teller's memory does not update.

How it runs

From the requestto the system of record.

A deposit is made at a teller line, an ATM, a mobile deposit, or by mail, and meets a condition in the bank's hold policy. Callvu picks up the deposit and the account.

Teller or deposit operations
Makes or reviews the deposit; sees the hold the process decided and its notice; overrides only within the allowed outcomes.
Customer
Receives the hold notice with the availability date and the reason.
Callvu
Classifies the exception, computes the availability, produces and delivers the notice, records the hold and releases on the date.
  1. Classify the exception

Callvu reads the deposit (amount, item types, the depositor, the account's age and history) and tests it against the Reg CC exceptions in the bank's policy: large deposit over the current threshold, new account within 30 days of opening, a redeposited item, repeated overdrafts in the past six months, reasonable cause to doubt collectibility (with the specific reason), or an emergency condition. No exception means no exception hold.

  2. Compute availability

From the exception and the item type, Callvu computes the availability date: the next-day amount, the standard schedule, and the extension the exception allows, counted in business days with the bank's cutoff and holidays. For a new account, the special rules for cashier's, government and on-us checks apply.

  3. Decide

The hold is placed by rule. A reasonable-cause hold, which needs a stated reason, or a case the policy reserves, goes to deposit operations in the Decision Desk with only the allowed outcomes: confirm with the reason, shorten, or release.

  4. Notify and write back

The hold notice with the required content (the account, the deposit, the amount held, the reason, the availability date) is given to the customer at the time of deposit, or sent by the first business day after if the deposit was not made in person. The hold, the notice and the availability date are written to the core, and the funds release on the date without anyone remembering.

Where it ends: The hold is in the core with its exception, the computed availability date and the notice record, and the funds release on the date. The Decision Trace shows the exception test and the computation; the Audit Trace shows the notice delivery and the release.

Runtime enforcement

What is enforcedwhile the work runs.

The regulations preloaded in Callvu Studio and the bank's own policies, applied as steps that run, not lines in a binder. A step that breaks a rule does not run, so a completed run was compliant.

The handoff

Between the front doorand the back office.

The front door

The teller line, the ATM, mobile deposit or mail. The teller sees the hold the process decided and the notice to hand over; nothing is decided from memory.

The back office

Deposit operations reviews only reasonable-cause holds and reserved cases. The core carries every hold with its notice and release date from Callvu.

The Decision Desk

  • A reasonable-cause hold goes to deposit operations in the Decision Desk with the deposit, the account history and only the allowed outcomes: confirm with the stated reason, shorten, or release.
  • A hold the policy reserves (for example, a new-account hold on a relationship customer) can be reviewed the same way.

Questions

What buyers ask next,answered plainly.

Can a teller still place a hold?

The process decides the hold from the Reg CC exceptions in the bank's policy and shows the teller the notice to give. A teller can route a case to deposit operations, but cannot place a hold outside the rule.

How is the availability date computed?

From the exception and the item type, in business days with the bank's cutoff and holidays, applying the standard schedule and the extension the exception allows. The computation is in the Decision Trace.

What about the inflation-adjusted thresholds?

The current large-deposit and new-account thresholds are maintained in the policy and applied on every test; a teller's memory is not involved.

When are the funds released?

On the computed date, automatically, with the release recorded.
