Account closure
How do we close a deposit account on request without paying out before pending items clear or the next statement surprises the customer?
Make the closure a process with a check in the middle. Callvu identifies the customer, prefills the account with its balance, holds, pending items and linked services, takes the payout instruction, holds the closure while anything is pending or the policy requires a review, and closes the account and disburses the funds in the core once the checks pass, with the final statement and confirmation sent.

The problem today
The account is closed on Monday, the pending debit posts on Tuesday, and the customer gets a collections letter.
A customer asks to close an account. The agent zeroes the balance, mails a check, and closes it. Two days later a card transaction that was authorized the week before posts, the account reopens overdrawn, and the customer who left on good terms gets a letter about a negative balance and a fee.
The checks are known: pending card authorizations and ACH debits, holds under Reg CC, a linked overdraft line, bill pay and direct deposits still pointed at the account, a safe deposit box, and for a joint account the other owner's consent where the agreement requires it. Done by hand on a call, one of them is skipped.
Closure has rules of its own: the final statement, the interest to the closing date, the Reg DD disclosure where a fee applies, and the escheat clock that starts if a payout check is never cashed.
How it runs
From the requestto the system of record.
A customer asks to close an account in any channel. Callvu identifies the customer and opens the account with everything attached to it.
- Customer
- Requests the closure, chooses the payout instruction, confirms the linked services to be moved, and signs.
- Deposit operations
- Decides the closures the policy reserves for a person and sees every closure with its checks and payout.
- Callvu
- Identifies, prefills, runs the pre-closure checks, holds the closure while anything is pending, routes exceptions, and closes and disburses in the core.
Identify and prefill
The customer is authenticated under the bank's policy for the channel. Callvu reads the account from the core: balance, accrued interest, holds, pending authorizations and ACH items, linked services (overdraft line, bill pay, direct deposits, cards, safe deposit box), joint owners, and any legal hold or levy.
Chase and verify
The customer chooses the payout (transfer to another account, cashier's check, or wire) and confirms where recurring payments and deposits will go. A joint owner's consent, where the agreement requires it, is requested with a link. Any item that must be resolved first is shown with its expected date.
Decide
An account with nothing pending, no hold, no levy and a payout inside the automatic rules closes by rule. A pending item holds the closure until it posts or expires. A legal hold, a negative balance, a dormant status, or a payout above the limit goes to deposit operations in the Decision Desk with only the allowed outcomes.
Write back
Interest is accrued to the closing date, fees applied under the disclosed schedule, the funds disbursed by the chosen method, the account closed in the core, linked services ended, and the final statement and confirmation sent to the customer.
Where it ends: The account is closed in the core with the funds disbursed, the final statement sent, and nothing left to post against it. The Decision Trace shows every check and the rule that cleared the closure; the Audit Trace shows every step and its time.
Runtime enforcement
What is enforcedwhile the work runs.
The regulations preloaded in Callvu Studio and the bank's own policies, applied as steps that run, not lines in a binder. A step that breaks a rule does not run, so a completed run was compliant.
The handoff
Between the front doorand the back office.
The front door
Any channel. The customer confirms the payout and the redirects on their own phone; a joint owner consents on theirs.
The back office
Deposit operations decides only the exceptions. The core receives one closure with its disbursement and final statement, and nothing reopens overdrawn.
The Decision Desk
- A legal hold, a levy, a negative balance, a dormant status, or a payout above the channel's limit goes to deposit operations in the Decision Desk with the account and only the allowed outcomes.
- A closure waiting on a pending item is shown to the customer with its expected date, and completes on its own when the item posts.

Questions
What buyers ask next,answered plainly.
What if there is a pending card transaction?
The closure waits until it posts or the authorization expires. The customer sees the expected date, and the account closes on its own after it.
Does a joint owner have to agree?
Where the account agreement requires it. The other owner consents on their own phone, and the closure does not run without it.
How is the payout done?
By the method the customer chooses within the channel's limit: a transfer, a cashier's check or a wire. The method and date are recorded, which matters if a check is never cashed.
What does the customer receive?
The final statement with interest and fees to the closing date, and a confirmation that the account is closed and nothing can post against it.
