Borrower identity verification
How do we capture and check the borrower's identity documents under the Customer Identification Program before the mortgage file moves forward?
Make identity a gate at the start of the file. Callvu collects each borrower's identification document on a secure screen (captured by camera or uploaded), reads it, checks the name, date of birth, address and identification number against the application, verifies through the lender's identity service and the government lists, records the CIP result with the document and the method, and holds the file at the point the lender's policy sets until every borrower is verified.

The problem today
The driver's license in the file is a photo of a photo, and nobody compared it to the application.
The borrower emails a picture of their license. The processor files it. The name on the license has a middle initial the application does not; the address is old; the expiration date passed. The CIP record consists of a filed image. A fraudulent application with a borrowed identity gets as far as underwriting.
The Customer Identification Program rule requires the lender to collect the name, date of birth, address and identification number, verify identity through documents or non-documentary methods within a reasonable time, check government lists, keep the record, and give the customer notice. A mortgage is a long relationship, and the examiner samples the CIP record on it like any other account.
Identity is also where the Red Flags program starts: the mismatches are the signals.
How it runs
From the requestto the system of record.
A borrower is added to the application. Callvu opens the identity step for each borrower before the file can pass the lender's chosen gate (intent to proceed, or submission to Processing).
- Borrower
- Captures or uploads their identification document on a secure screen and confirms the details; each co-borrower does the same.
- Processor
- Reviews only the mismatches and the verification exceptions.
- Callvu
- Captures, reads, checks, verifies, screens, records the CIP result and holds the gate.
Capture and read
Each borrower captures their government-issued identification (a license, a passport, a state identification card) on a process-controlled screen; the document is read for the name, date of birth, address, number, issuing authority and expiration, and the image's integrity is checked.
Chase and verify
The read data is compared with the application's name, date of birth, address and Social Security number; a mismatch is shown to the borrower to correct or explain. Identity is verified through the lender's service (document authentication, database checks) and screened against the government lists. An expired document or an unresolvable mismatch holds the step.
Classify the result
The CIP result (verified by document, verified non-documentary, or exception) is classified with the method, and Red Flags indicators (an address discrepancy, an identification that does not match the credit report) are routed to the fraud process where they appear.
Write back and gate
The document image, the read data, the verification and screening results, the method and the CIP notice are written to the loan file in the LOS under the CIP record, the file passes the identity gate for that borrower, and the record is retained under the CIP rule.
Where it ends: Every borrower's identity is verified and recorded under the CIP rule, with the document, the method and the screening on the loan, before the file moved past the gate. The Decision Trace shows the checks and the classification; the Audit Trace shows the capture, the verification and the gate.
Runtime enforcement
What is enforcedwhile the work runs.
The regulations preloaded in Callvu Studio and the bank's own policies, applied as steps that run, not lines in a binder. A step that breaks a rule does not run, so a completed run was compliant.
The handoff
Between the front doorand the back office.
The front door
A secure screen for each borrower, by camera or upload, at the start of the file.
The back office
The processor sees only exceptions; the file carries a CIP record the examiner can read.
The Decision Desk
- A verification exception, a list hit or an unresolvable mismatch goes to the processor or the fraud team in the Decision Desk with the document and the results, and only the allowed outcomes.

Questions
What buyers ask next,answered plainly.
What is checked on the identification?
The name, date of birth, address, number and expiration are read and compared with the application, the document's integrity is checked, identity is verified through the lender's service, and the government lists are screened.
When must it be done?
Before the file passes the gate the lender's policy sets, for every borrower, with the CIP record written before the gate releases.
What about a mismatch?
The borrower is shown it to correct or explain; an unresolvable one, or a Red Flags indicator, goes to the processor or the fraud team.
